The Economist reported on the killing of FARC leader “Alfonso Cano” by the Colombian armed forces. The article states, that the operation that lead to the killing of Cano has been the most important in the history of the conflict between the FARC and the Colombian State. According to the article, President Santos has declared that military pressure against the guerrillas will continue until the government sees a true gesture of peace from the guerrillas. escalation of the armed conflict has caused the displacement of around 10% of
the Awa population. The Washington Post reported on the first message sent by the FARC’s new leader alias “Timochenko” to President Santos, calling him “threatening and brutal”.
