The Washington Post reported on the death of 10 soldiers product of an attack by guerrillas, against a military convoy in the department of Arauca. The article states that this is the worst attack registered in the last year. The article quotes the report by Luis Jorge Garay and Fernando Baberi on the impacts that the FTA will have on small scale farmers, to argue that the losers of the deal will be small scale farmers in Colombia. The Miami Herald published a report on the widening wiretapping scandal involving the presidential intelligence agency DAS. According to the report the agency was involved in a series of illegal and violent acts such as the attacks against the current Minister of Interior Germán Vargas Lleras, in 2005. The BBC reported on the elections for local governors and mayors, and how according to the news source violence against candidates is not the only threat of the elections. The article states that in Colombia there is a serious risk of local public offices falling into the hands of candidates affiliated with illegal armed actors.

Fox News Latino publicó un artículo sobre la reciente aprobación del Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Estados Unidos y Colombia, y como éste ha generado preocupación dentro de sectores agricultores de Colombia. El artículo cita el estudio de Luis Jorge Garay y Fernando Barberi sobre los impactos del TLC sobre los pequeños productores, para argumentar que los grandes perdedores con el tratado serán los pequeños productores Colombianos. El Miami Herald publicó un reporte sobre las nuevas revelaciones en el escándalo de la agencia presidencial de inteligencia DAS. De acuerdo con el artículo, nuevas investigaciones apuntan a que agentes del DAS estuvieron involucrados en el atentado en contra del ahora Ministro del Interior Germán Vargas Lleras en el 2005. La BBC reportó sobre las recientes elecciones en Colombia, y como, de acuerdo con el artículo, la violencia en contra de los candidatos no es la única amenaza que se cierne sobre las elecciones. El artículo afrima que existen serios riesgos que las alcaldias y gobernaciones locales y regionales queden en manos de personas vículadas a los grupos armados ilegales.
