Colombia in the US Newsl Colombia en la Prensa Estadounidense

Reuters reported that a group of Republican Senators urged President Obama to pass the trade deals with Colombia, Korea and Panama, regardless of the discussions around the TAA extension. The Guardian reports on the economic development model from the Uribe era and the grave consequences that it had in the poorest sectors of the Colombian society, and how the new government is following this same model. The Latin American Tribune reported on the seizure by the Colombian army of an arsenal of explosives and arms allegedly owned by the FARC. Reuters reported on the assassination of land leader Ana Cordoba, who was gunned down while she was riding public transportation in the city of Medellín. The Miami Herald reported on the killing of one of the FARC’s leader, Alirio Rojas alias “El Abuelo” during a firefight in the department of Tolima.

Reuters reportó que un grupo de Senadores republicanos urgieron al Presidente Obama para que presente a revisión del Congreso los tratados con Colombia, Panamá y Korea, aún si la extesión del TAA todavía no es aprobada por ésta colectividad. The Guardian reportó sobre el modelo de desarrollo económico de la era Uribe y las graves consequencias que tuvo para los sectores más vulnerables del país, y como el nuevo gobierno parece seguir el mismo rumbo. The Latin American Tribune publicó una nota sobre la incautación por parte del ejército de explosivos y armas realizada. Se presume que el arsenal pertenecía a la guerrilla de las FARC. Reuters reportó sobre el asesinato de Ana Cordoba, líder de población desplazada que lideraba un proceso de restitución. Ana fue asesinada cuando se encontraba en un bus de servicio público en la ciudad de Medellín. El Miami Herald reportó sobre la muerte en combate de Alirio Rojas, alias “El Abuelo”, líder de la guerrilla de las FARC en el departamento del Tolima.
