The Los Angeles Times reported on human rights defender Principe Gabriel Gonzalez’s case. The newspaper said that Mr. Gonzalez could return to prison despite a judge throwing out the charges against him and calling them “utterly baseless”. Reuters reported that President Uribe gave his strongest signal yet that he intends to run for a third term, by suspending his weekly town hall meetings. The Inspector-General had said that if Uribe were to run in May he should cancel these meetings as they may give him an unfair advantage over other presidential candidates. The New York Times reported on the killing of 18 guerrilla militants and the capture of 13 more in the attack on two guerrilla The Washington Post reported that the there is a fleet of aircrafts that serves for illegal smuggling of drugs and arms between the guerillas of the FARC and Al-Qaeda militants in Africa.

La publicación afirmó que Gonzalez podría regresar a prisión, aún a pesar que el Juez de primera instancia ordenó su libertad y la nulidad de todo el proceso, al afirmar que las acusaciones en contra del defensor no tienen fundamento. Reuters hizo mención sobre la suspensión de los Consejos Comunales como una señal clara de las intenciones del Presidente Uribe de participar en la contienda electoral. El Procurado General de la Nación habí afirmado que si Uribe fuera a lanzarse como candidato, debería suspender los consejos, ya que le darían una ventaja sobre los demás candidatos.
