USTR Comment Period on Free Trade Agreement between Colombia and the US l Período de Comentarios de USTR sobre TLC entre Colombia y USA

Yesterday the US Office on Colombia and Oxfam America, as well as a broad range of human rights, labor, environmental, development and faith-based organizations submitted written comments to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) calling on the Obama Administration to broaden the debate around the pending free trade agreement between the United States and Colombia. The comments were filed in response to a formal request by USTR for views on the pending trade agreement.
“We welcome the USTR’s willingness to meet with our organizations and to listen to our concerns. We hope that our views will be given full consideration and reflected in the policy decisions that the government makes with regard to the FTA,” said Kelly Nicholls, Executive Director, U.S. Office on Colombia.

En el día de ayer La Oficina en los Estados Unidos sobre Colombia (USOC) and Oxfam América, al igual que un gran número de organizaciones que trabajan temas de derechos humanos, derechos laborales, medio ambiente, desarrollo y organizaciones religiosas, sometieron comentarios escritos a la oficina del Representante de los Estados Unidos para el Comercio (USTR) en el que le hacen un llamado a la Administracón de Obama para que amplie el debate acerca del tratado de libre comercio entre los Estados Unidos y Colombia. Los comentarios fueron sometidos como respuesta al pedido de USTR.
"Recibimos con agrado la voluntad de USTR de reunirse con nuestras organizaciones y de escuchar nuestras preocupaciones. Esperamos que éstas sean tenidas en cuenta y se vean reflejadas en las decisiones de política que el gobierno Américano tome sobre el TLC", afirmó Kelly Nicholls, Directora Ejecutiva de USOC.
